I dinnae who ye are, but if'n ye want him ye'll haf tae come through me. Ari says flatly, laying a hand on his warhammer. The dwarf mutters something almost incomprehensible about shooting a man in the back.

"Maghus." Angel visibly relaxes, her posture changing. "Like I said, I'd like to kill him myself, but Salia... they have Salia, I can't... If he dies, we have less chance of getting her back. They have her chained up like a... " She pauses realising who is with her. "Please, help us? Killing him will be a small thing, helping Salia and stopping this madness would be so much more." She sighs.

"Ari, this is one of us, this is Maghus, if anyone can help... he can." She explains kindly, never moving her postion.

"Ahh... Maghus..." Galanis smiles sheepishly, scratches his head and shifts his weight from one leg to another. "Hmmm... we didn't hit you, did we?" he tries to find a nice way out of it.

"The legionnaires have Salia?" Maughus begins muttering, and pacing back and forth. "No way," he says, after a moment. "No way we can get her out of there. I scouted the place. Not with the fifty-fourth in there and a war-priest with them.
"Best we can do is wait and hit them on the road, at night, when they have quit the town. We might be able to get her out. Or we use this one as a bargaining chip. Will their commander trade her for him?"

Liri stands up once Maughus reveals himself, then whistles for Casta to come back. She approaches the group with the mare's reins in her hands and announces: "We were careless. We're moving in enemy lands yet got ambushed. Never mind that Maughus is good at hiding himself, we were dangerously careless. Let's get into the enclosure to discuss things furhter, and post a guard."

"Agreed." Angel admits with a blush as she moves Praesul alongside Casta and shakes her head. "Dida is carrying precious cargo, she has to get safety to the House. We have been tasked with finding the one responsible for creating the.. Monsters, I'm sure you have seen them. We take him to them and they free Salia."

"As for trading him, I doubt his master gives a damn about him."

[OOC] Three things:

Breila - I wouldn't say the PCs had been careless. They had no reason to suspect that there would be an ambush waiting in a place they had already visited. Maughus is good at his job, and a big part of that job is ambushing unsuspecting enemies.

Jen - When Maughus said: "this one" he was referring to the acolyte, not to the wet-nurse. When he suggested trading "her for him" he was suggesting taking the acolyte as a hostage to exchange for Salia.

TC - The acolyte is still alive, but just barely. Without help, he'll be pushing up the daisies by nightfall.

OOC: I know the party hasn't really been careless, it's Liri's nervousness showing. She wants to get cover. Who knows who else is on the road, and what the evil priests have created.

[will the alcolyte recover without magical healing? If not, Ari will heal him but try to leave scars since the kid went on about that. I realize magical healing typically doesn't leave scars, but if he takes the arrow out part way, heals the life-threatening damage, and just rips the rest through the skin it would just be a flesh wound and leave scarring, making it appear he hadn't been healed. Maybe that will keep the little shit from going psycho, lol.]

[OOC] Vani's condition is precarious. He was definitely in the 'hovering at death's door' category when Ari got to him, and he hasn't regained consciousness. He will not be going anywhere on his own power right now or any time soon.
With regard to divine healing in a manner to still leave scars, I'd have to give that some thought. My knee-jerk reaction is to say that it's not possible. [/OOC]

"So let's find cover and continue with our mission?" Galanis asks politely.

[my thought is that with the partial removal of the arrow it would technically be a 'new' scar when he ripped the arrow the rest of the way out; unless healing forces the arrow out i suppose. But either way is fine, just trying to creatively respect his wishes at least -somewhat- lol]

Liri looks at Angel. She was close to answering "Yes" to Galanis's question, but Angel was the commander.
