Jerry hurls herself over Merrick, prying his arms away from his throat; though the nails leave long but shallow scratches across his neck as she does so. Overpowering the slender man she manages to wake him with some effort. At first those violet eyes cast wildly about the room but staring far beyond the physical world. slowly he begins to focus on the half-elf's face and voice, and ceases to struggle. Once she lets him up, he smooths his rumpled nightshirt and calms his breathing before answering.Chris1234 wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 2:19 pm Heart still poundingfrom her own night terrors Jerry lunges across the bed to grab Merrick's left arm. Wrapping both of her forearms around his she triwes to lock them off and heaves, using her body weight to lever his left hand away from his neck. "Merrick! Wake up" Merrick"! You're dreaming! Wake up!"
Jerry continues the struggle until her man surfaces from sleep.. "Merrick! Nightmare! You're with me. Safe! They're getting worse. I need you to trust me. Tell me about the nightmare you just had. I need the details, no matter how bad."..
She hugs and comforts him as he relates whatever he can allow himself to, and then summarises her own nocturnal terrors. As they resat together Jerry asks, "Do the nightmares usually get worse like this? Is it a known thing? A cycle perhaps, like the seasons. You do know what I mean by seasons, right? If so, how long to these nighmare cycles last, trough to peak? Is the recovery a similar rate? How does it work? Or if the whole thing is something stretching out over years, what do you know or have heard about its longevity? if we go with thew analogy of seasons, what's the length of the year?" Trying to reason the thing out, successful or not, calms Jerry, her breathing returns to normal and she draws small abstract pattern across Merrick's chest as she looks at him. Such a beautiful face.
When done, she washes and prays for spells while Merrick rests a little longer before rising to clean also. They sort out their respoctive spell memorisation next to each other and then jerry dresses. She finishes upstairs with an Alteration cantrip, "Hair be tidy, hair be nice, arranged just so without dirt or lice!"
"Time to go seek the others and breakfast"
We were walking the streets, searching... It was getting late and... suddenly that thing grabbed me! It was tearing my throat before I knew it!! And... and I couldn't do anything! I watched... I watched it attack you and.. he grimaces, face in torment. I couldn't stop it... I couldn't do anything...
Jerry goes on, asking about the nature of nightmares for him in specific detail, but he shakes his head. I honestly don't know much, I've really only been here in Kartakass for about 3 months. Well, 4 now. Back in Sithicus, nightmares were just a way of life... usually vague and easily forgotten; nothing so... specific as far as I can tell. After coming to this land, it was mostly the same. Just generic nightmares, most nights but you sort of... learn to deal with it.
The dark-haired half-elf hesitates, staring off into space. Since I met you folks, however... it has been... different. More specific, really, and I can much more often remember what they were about... for a little while anyway. I haven't been here long enough to know if they follow a long cycle like the seasons, but in Sithicus they certainly didn't. They were just sort of a dull background fact of life that nobody really wants to talk about. Since it was the same here when I came to stay with my cousin, I never really brought it up to him and he never mentioned it.
After their discussion the two prepare their spells for the day, side by side. Jerry freshens up with a cantrip and the pair head downstairs together.
