The party takes the northern tunnel, which opens up into a massive chamber. Aside from the path they took, there are three additional paths leading out of the chamber--one to the west, and two more to the south, further east than they currently are.

The room is filled with large crates and barrels, as well as a few mine carts. "This is where we would store ore before taking it up to the surface," Bear says.

"I suggest the west path," Kendra says. "The other tunnels probably lead to the tunnel we skipped over in the last room."

"Right, west it is." Haahqae happily skips over to the newly revealed tunnel and pears down it before taking his first steps out of the room.

While Greggedin moves toward the nearest creates, Haahqae skips toward the western tunnel without a care. He suddenly notices a rather unpleasant smell that reminds him of wet dog. But Coroccoco is nowhere near him, so where is it coming from?

At that point, the laughter returns. It's now much closer, and louder. It seems to come from every direction at once.

Sinister, glowing red eyes begin to appear around the crates and barrels.

"Little lambs, little lambs," one high-pitched voice sings in an almost mocking manner.

"Lambs that trespass," says another.

"More miners?" asks another. "It has been long since we had any meat..."

"Too long," agrees another.

Kendra's lantern does not reveal anyone, it's range is too short. Haahqae, though, having broken away from the main group, can use his infravision. He spots several creatures emerging from behind the crates and boxes. They are about his height, but are definitely not gnomes. They have rat-like tails, canine snouts, and are covered in dull, rust colored scales.
Kobold.JPG

He spots at least five of them--four carrying crude spiked clubs, and the other holding a small axe and carrying a wicker shield. All of them are wearing leather armor.

==============

(OOC: It should be noted, that only Haahqae can see the five creatures shown on the map. Also, these are the ones within his infravision range and in his direct line of sight. There may be others hidden behind boxes or beyond his visual range.

The large orange circle is the range of Kendra's lantern, while the smaller one is Greggedin's torch range. Anyone within either circle cannot see anything beyond their range, including those of you with infravision. Anything outside of the circle can see those within clearly, though. The pink circle is the range of Haahqae's infravision. If you have infravision and want to use it, you'll need to move out of the light.)

If any of the creatures are looking in his direction Haahqae will run towards the party yelling "Deamons!" And jumping up onto the boxes in the south west corner near Greggedin.

If none seem to have noticed him, he'll silently slink away into the tunnel, trying to hide, but also keep the monsters in line of sight.

Gregeddin's eyes flit about the murk searching for the source of these taunts, his ears do little to guide him, and the space around him suddenly feels quite cavernous accompanied by the shrill voices.

The only thing he can do for the moment is take solace in the sight of boxes and the hint of a wall, surely the corner of the room, Gregeddin thinks to himself. He noses at the boxes trying to decipher the contents and verify if they are in fact inert ore - or anything more interesting.

There was no denying Gregeddin felt unsettled, unable to assess the situation. In what seemed like the most logical course of action, of the many thoughts running through his head, he decides to take a torch from his pack and slip it into his belt. Readily accessible, in case I need more light, or something, less dark anyway, less dark better...

Upon hearing the mocking voice, Darga grips his walking stick tightly and dives away from the firelight. Perhaps these demons won't notice him, and he'll be able to sneak away and flee back to town...

But at the sight of his companions, Darga pushes his cowardly thought away. He came along to help these people, and it'd be shameful to let them fight these demons while he flees. Narrowing his eyes, he looks about, trying to see just what these demons look like and whether it's a bad or a very bad idea to fight them.

(OOC: I don't know if the demons have seen Darga yet, but as he hasn't seen them himself, he'll try to hide in the shadows and sneak up on one. If he's not being watched, he's got a 20% chance to hide in shadows, but an 89 ain't gonna cut it.)

"Demons!" Haahqae yells, running full speed toward the creates and quickly climbing up on top of them, and into the light of Gregeddin's torch. As a result, he can no longer see the creatures.

Gregeddin, however, ignores the spooky voices and the gnome's warning, and turns to inspect the crates instead. He finds, however, they are nailed shut. He'll need a crowbar, or a similar tool, to pry them open. He pulls out a second, unlit torch, and slips it into his belt in case he needs it for later.

Kendra moves to the nearest crate on her left and sets her lantern on the ground. In doing so, she spots one of the creatures peeking out from behind the other side of the crate, hissing at the bright light.

Darga, now no longer in Kendra's light, can see again. Up ahead, he spots at least two of the creatures. They clearly see him, as well, as the snarl and ready their weapons as they step out of their hiding places. It's clear they can see in the dark just as well as he can.

Coroccoco steps forward, next to the Aghar, avoiding the light sources and entering a fighting stance. "These are no demons," she says. "They are kobolds. Weak, pathetic...but in large numbers, they can be a threat," she warns.

Bear moves over by Kendra, so he can be in the light of her lantern. He readies his axe. "Well, let them come then. What are you all standing around for? This is what I'm paying you for. Let's wipe them out!"

"K-k-kobolds?" Haahqae straitens, trying to regain a little bit of dignity. "R-right. I knew that." And fits a bullet to his sling, ready to launch the projectile at the first scaly creature he can see.

[OOC: Invisible castle is down as I write this, would you be able to roll dice for me please]
EDIT: as per OOC Thread:

Gregeddin is caught a little off guard by the scrambling Haahqae. He blurts out a nettled "What?!" at the gnome, but after hearing Coroccoco's explanation, his voice offers a softer "Ohh... but where..." he begins to say as he searches the room. His voice now projects an alarmed "Oh!" as he spots the scrawny beast by Sinclair.

Gregeddin sheathes his sword and lights the second torch from his belt.

He moves towards the lantern, both torches extended above his head, yelling "I'm coming!"

Darga steps back from the snarling kobolds. Face to face with the creatures, his every instinct is to run, or to throw himself to the ground and beg for mercy. But from the corner of his eye, he sees his companions standing and fighting. Gritting his teeth together, he raises is walking stick and steps forward. "Well, c'mon then. If ya wanna kill me, I ain't gonna make it easy fer ya!"

Kobolds begin swarming forward, all wearing leather armor and armed with a variety of crude weaponry. More can be heard scuttling about in the darkness, coming closer.

One kobold, armed with a club, heads toward Darga and swings right at the Aghar's head. Darga ducks just in time to feel the whoosh of air over his head as the club misses by mere inches. Darga retaliates with his staff, cuffing the creature's right shoulder. The blow will no doubt leave a nasty welt, but is not fatal.

Gregeddin, caught off guard despite the kobolds openly announcing their presence a few moments before, catches on to what is happening and using one torch, he lights another, then moves toward Kendra and Bear.

A kobold with a hand axe moves around the crate Kendra stands next to, and swings at her. She easily deflects it with her sword, then with a single fluid swing, takes off the creature's head. It drops to the ground, still twitching.

Coroccoco moves forward and with a battle cry, strikes a kobold in the head with her elbow. It's a glancing blow, though, and it doesn't do much beside knock the creature back a couple of steps. Furious, it retaliates with its club, slamming it into her knee cap with surprising strength from such a small creature. The hobgoblin howls in pain from the attack.

Loading a bullet into his sling, Haahqae whirls it overhead before letting it loose. His aim is true, and the stone strikes a kobold right between the eyes, killing it instantly. The kobold next to it, though, looks at Haahqae hatefully and readies to avenge his comrade.

Another kobold comes around the other side of the crate where Bear and Kendra stand. It slashes at the barbarian with his axe, but fails to even cut through Bear's tough armor. "Die, demons!" Bear cries, raising his axe overhead. The kobold has no time to even react as the axe comes down on top of him, nearly slicing him in two halves.

(OOC: Some tips for you, since some of you are new at this: Make sure to name your targets. If you aren't sure what to do, I will point out that Haahqae, a caster, is now unprotected and Coroccoco is now at less than 50% HP.

Keep in mind the lighting. The kobolds that are not in the light, not in infravision range, or behind cover do not appear on the map at all. Any kobolds on the map that are in the light are visible to anyone, so long as your line of sight isn't blocked. Kobolds not in the light, but still show up on the map, are only visible to your character if they have infravision and are in your line of sight.

Bashers have clubs, slashers have axes, stabbers have short swords, and pokers have spears, if that isn't obvious.

Any further questions, just ask in the OOC thread.
