That's a good question, some it will be learned in game. But your characters could deduce some of it already.
Assuming Sinistra was a target of such a spell, she didn't suffer any memory losses from the description given by Ag, herself, and others. Personality changes developed over a short time span, similar to victims of polymorph spells that fail their will saves. If this is the case victims would believe they have merely changed race and or gender. It was noted Sinistra appeared to suffer a level loss with the change.
There was a partial collapse and the party did not search further after finding Sinistra. As no male human was discovered in the rubble after the blast and transformation, Sinistra never met a male human half. Any further speculation would no doubt require research of ancient records or consultation with sages familiar to such types of magic.

Sorry I have not posted yet, i'm trying to think of that good intro. plus i don't want to interrupt. You've something good going on there!
Edit: I spent some gold obtaining a mount to unburden myself a bit, i've written my character as a bit of a traveler. Should I enter seeking a stable in this Inn or have obtained lodgings elsewhere and at the moment be exploring the city/local taverns?

Do what works for you, but the Tavern isn't somewhere I'd suggest making a base, it's... Well let's me honest it's a dive!
Wander in and see what develops, that's my view, just look out for a small tabby cat, he'll be around somewhere chasing mice.

Just letting you know i'm working on getting a feel for this character, I don't want you all to hate being around him because of his mannerisms but he is going to be kind of hard to like sadly. Not sure if I'm supposed to share this but it's out of character so I will just go ahead and say that he has 5 charisma. He is an aberration so part of it is otherworldly dislike, part his mannerisms, and part disfigurement(i've included a picture in my private thread to give an idea, should i share it here/somewhere else?), but I don't want to be "that guy" so if i'm playing a little "wrongly" please(please) let me know!

You're doing fine. There is no specific "wrong" or "right" way to play.

Hi Namenlos,
I also play in a different game a character with 5 CHA, and this is quiet fun. He is of good nature but doesn't look good and continuously slips in his words. Curses the wrong people at the wrong times, has zero tact and so on. This can also develop to interesting threads in the plot that wouldn't occur if he was more polite. Moreover, his good character is apparent and he grows on the other players. So after a shaky start, they become good friends in spite of his "issues".
So go on and play your best... or worst... character.
