Garroth approaches to within 10' of the hole, no closer and sniffs.. before circling around as previously stated, to the other side of the fallen tree.. for a look around..
)Staying hidden in shadows in natural environment..)

"Seems to me whatever did that is not here at the moment. Best we get moving before it comes back."

(Question: is the hole from the roots being ripped out when the tree was pushed over, or does it look like something dug up under the tree?

Linar waits, listening and looking all the while, but taking what advantage he can of the cover.

Linar covers Garroth from the woods as the Minotaur inspects the hole. He notices that the roots of the tree have been bend and split in some places as if it were forced over, but the hole beneath has clearly been here for some time. It is almost as if something had made a lair beneath and then forced the tree over. There are burn marks on the soil to one side of the hole away from the tree, but only below ground. It seems something had started a fire below with some kind of flammable liquid and whatever lived here forced the tree over to get out. Judging from the conditions of the roots, it has only been a few days of exposure, though the tree likely suffered from the lair itself for some time before that.

Garroth checks the road on the other side.. then comes back to Boyd...
Let's move this tree.. it can't be good for travellers.. only time till someone uses this as an ambush point.

No change: Linar waits, listening and looking all the while, but taking what advantage he can of the cover.

Garroth nods... "Ok... but whatever was burned out of that hole might be wandering around.. speaking of which if it's been there for some time it might have somebtreasure un its lair.. shouldn't we at least check it out while we're here?"

Eariel and the others approach to within 60 feet of where the tree is, staying to the road. The group could easily bypass it by stepping throughthe woods on either side, or attempt to climb over without too much trouble.
The lair itself is clearly abandoned, but there is no sign as to whether it was looted or not thereafter.

"You're leading, but I'd suggest we all circle around to get past, all clockwise, unless there's a clear reason why not," suggests Linar, moving closer.

Garroth investigates the ground near the hole. There are plenty of tracks, many of which seem to belong to large humanoid creatures. Their directions are erratic and confusing, but they seem to have been Trolls; which fits with the type of lair. He searches for any other tracks, but finds it impossible to tell if any other creature had entered the lair in the crazy mess of prints.
