The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]

The (Original!) Tomb of Horrors!!!
S1 by the great Gygax 1978. Everything adapted to 2e. This is NOT the Return to ToH written for 2e

Labyrinth of Madness!!! Previously Concluded (by TPK)
S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

Zafron will move up to the door. He will look for any hinges that provide any insight as to which way the door might open. Is the door made of wood, stone, or iron?

The door is well seasoned oak and opens away ftom the party, thus the hinges are not visible currently but expected to be on the other side.

"Look at the walls around the door. There may be a mechanism to operate it." Galan suggests. "If not we can try to force it open together. Or look for a secret door nearby."

Galan and Zafron begin to shove against the door to force it open, suddenly the stuck door springs open fully, threatening to dump them to the floor beyond. The Dwarf and the Elf nearly topple forward onto the floor beyond, but their quick reflexes save them at the last moment. The hallway extends another twenty feet before ending in an almost identically looking door.

Bryce nudges Tabbi and chuckles. This place sure has a lot of fun tricks doesn't it. he grins

====
Breath Weapon save (dex related)
Zafron BW(4) +3 for dex, need anything but a 1!
[1d20] = 3, pass!
Zafron does not lose his balance

Galan BW(11) +2 for dex (cat's grace expired) need 9 or higher.
[1d20] = 15, pass! Galan does not lose his balance
Zafron and Galan BW save [1d20]=3, [1d20]=15

"Wooha... phew! That was close. Ready for the next door?" Galan smiles but let the scouts check for traps before following.

Zafron and Tabbi examen the pit in front of them. How deep is it? Are there spikes on the floor of the pit? How long and wide is it? Is there any way around it like a leg? Can Tabbi determined if the walls and be easily scaled around the pit?

Can the walls of the pit be scaled?

Zafron says, "if there are spikes on the floor of the pit, I say we try to damage them just for safe keeping."

Can we jump over the pit?

Prodding the floor just beyond the newly oppened door reveals a pit trap about 10 feet deep with large spikes at the bottom; apparently identical to thoae found in the first great hall. The pit's size poses a different kind of issue, however. Being the full width of the hall, it leaves no way to cross via traditional means...
====
10ftx10ft wide pit takes up the first half of the short hallway. No edge on the sides by the wall to Walk.

climbing the walls will be at normal chances of success. Jumping is possible, those with the jumping nwp can clear it without a check. Otherwise i'll have to dig up my notes. Leaning towards a straight str check for those unencumbered (movement 12/12) and 1 lt penalty for every 2 points below 12 base movement (so small creature with 6 base move start with a -3 penalty if unencumbered)...
there are much safer ways than jumping
