Re: So what truly constitutes an evil act?
Would that be an evil act on the part of the ranger or paladin? Would it matter whether or not he knew what the sword does? Would it only be an evil act if the sword actually sucked out a level, or would it still be considered against his alignment just for using it, even if it doesn't drain a leve...

Re: So what truly constitutes an evil act?
I think this is touching on different forms of ethics. While I can never remember the names of the different schools of ethics, there are some which are along the lines of 'some acts are just inherently evil', while others might say 'this act is generally evil, but it's okay to do it if it's to avoi...

Re: Paladins/clerics/rangers.. Rank structure??
The cleric pc, gives an order to the paladin, cause of something he is doing wrong.. But the player of the paladin, IGNORES said order... What sort of penalties would arise? I suppose it would depend on the nature of the order, the nature of the deity in question, and whether the hierarchy is simpl...

Re: Paladins/clerics/rangers.. Rank structure??
I think it could vary between different religions, with them effectively forming separate hierarchies (with clerics in the primary hierarchy and paladins in the 'military' hierarchy). However not all would necessarily differentiate between the two. As a general rule, I'd be inclined to have the cler...

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
If he gained it in loot, how then is it 'belonging to the party'? Typically in most of the games I've been in, loot found by the party is considered to belong to the party. While a particular character may somewhat lay claim to it (such as based on who can best use it), it is still fairly a group-o...

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
Say it was one of the magic items he had gained in loot.. That would most likely be an item which rightly belongs to the group, so it would be available (again, assuming it wouldn't logically be physically elsewhere, such as if the absent PC is off doing something else). Its been rare that i've had...

Re: Henchmen/Followers/Hirelings
Even in 1E, I remember there being a much greater emphasis on henchmen. In 2E, it seemed that the parties were mainly PCs. Not as much a presence in 2E it seemed. I'd second that. Given I started in the days of 2nd ed, while henchmen were known about, I don't think I ever had one in any games I pla...

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
Especially if something attacks the group, and kills everyone else.. DO THose being 'ignored' die? OR if they have a maguffin on them, that the party needs, do they all of a sudden 'hand it over'? In the case of a TPK with someone absent, it would likely mean the end of the group as a whole anyway....

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
So, what happens to their character? Do they just go into a bubble of 'nothing will affect them/nothing can touch them"?? Do they just "Ping, red warrior has exited the game"? I had the same question Garhkal had when I read this. I can't see just pretending one of the characters is n...

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
I've never been comfortable playing other people's characters. Same here. I'm especially not a fan of having other players run someone else's PC, even if they've left. For the same reason, if someone isn't able to make it to a session, I just ignore their character for that session. I recently had ...

Re: How big a group is too big?
I terms of player numbers, I find that anything over 6 tends to becomes difficult to manage. Might be different if the players were particularly professional about the game, but on the whole it would be too many. I generally prefer to keep numbers to no more than 5 PCs. As for total party size, I've...

Re: Spell research, bards/rangers/paladins?
I'm not sure that I've ever actually had a character research a new spell in-game. However, I've always thought that if it were to happen, it should be something which forms the basis for an adventure, rather than simply relying on finding a nice library and reading for a while. For example, if a wi...

Re: Dragon Magazine in .pdf format
Awesome! I'll never read em, but I'm a PDF horder. I think that completes my list of every know D&D source now... lol Haha, yeah I'm the same. I think that applies to most of my hard copies as well. I just trawl ebay for whenever things come up (there's much less available here in Aus than in t...

Re: Who uses 'gaming paper'?
I have a battle map which I made on A2 size paper, with squares printed and laminated so that I can draw on it. It works pretty well (and was cheaper than the chessex battle maps). However, something I've seen used to good effect is a roll of contact (eg. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officewo...
