Mapping Using CC3

Post by Cole »

Hey all,

I've been teaching myself yet another program for fantasy mapping. Have a look at this small city map I made and leave comments. I think it's a pretty cool editor. ;) Hard to learn though.... allot of complex features, yet made for some cool options, like shadow walls, tree depth, random houses etc.

That city map is fantastic. And in general I thought that CC3 was pretty fantastic for city mapping.

Unfortunately, I found it incredibly difficult for land mass mapping, or whole world mapping. Maybe I just didn't have the patience to work through it. I watched the tutorials several times, and still couldn't make a working map that was worth a darn.

I prefer the Terregen line for world mapping. You can export the overall map graphic for a world map.

yeah I found a few more things to make it look even better now ;)

I have done up the full page for Shaleton on the Ankhur website for those interested in a print off for the own worlds in an emergency city need ;)

http://www.padnd.com/ankhur/shaleton.php

This will be the template style for all of Ankhur's cities.

Now that i've played in CC3 for an extra day, man it's very powerful. Overland maps are much easier then city maps TSD ;) you just require allot of patience.. 8)

You can export anything in any style you like in CC3 as well Kafen ;) you just have to find the right place to do it ;) If you hit File / Save As and move the tab open, you can export the entire map in over 20 formats.... even a player's map to hide ALL secret areas ... very nifty :)

I use Dundjinni, Terragen, and Inkscape to do my maps. Vector graphics are my main focus, though. If I ever go back to stamp style map making suites, I will pick CC# back up.

I know CC2 had a plugin for Terragen 1. It might still apply for CC3.

Yeah I grabbed Dundjinni as well, look nice too... just didn't seem to have the extra options I required to map cities out. But nice to steal textures from. I'll have to check Terragen too Kaf ;) thanks for the tip :)

I'm going to map out a MASSIVE city soon as my players did a 360 in what I expected and are now heading to the capital city... yikes! 25,000+ people there... that'll be fun 8O

CC still accepts imports from large bmp style images right?
