As for your ongoing feud with the schmoes at DF, they can go pound sand. Normally, I would offer "Don't lose any sleep over it" but I suspect that's not much of a problem for you. Haters gonna hate, bro...

Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
When I read the $250,000 goal, I couldn't help but be skeptical. That's a shitload of money and they/he have been pretty down low about advertising it. I committed $100 but I don't believe it will make the goal by the date they have set for it. It's only about 1/4 of the way there with just over 30 days to go. He needs to figure out a way to advertise this thing more. Maybe on Board Game Geek. There are plenty of folks there that play RPGs as well as board games, including a bunch of old heads like me.

What 250,000 goal? Who is collecting that much? lol
I'd be happy to see $100 a year in donations.. 250k ... that's insane!

Check my previous post about Frank Mentzer's Empyrea Kickstarter project, just click on the link and you'll see what I'm referring to.Cole wrote:What 250,000 goal? Who is collecting that much? lol

Sprayed my iced tea out my nose on that one! You're right, not a problem for me!
I wonder why Frank needed to set such a high mark for the Kickstarter thing though. Is it really that expensive to publish something? Yikes! I hope there's a way he can find more advertising to hit the goal.

FWIW, Mr. Mentzer cancelled the Empyrea project kickstarter. Can't say I'm very surprised, he only had a little over $61,000 toward his goal of $250,000. It's a shame, though. It looked to be a very promising setting to me. Wonder if he'll try again... ? I suppose all of the asshats at DF are cheering...

Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
That sucks. I don't understand the time limit though. Why only 30 days to raise that much?
Yeah, I'm sure the usual dickheads at DF will be snarky about it and post "I told you so" posts ripping on Frank. And the idiot mods will post their typical passive-aggressive non-warnings to their pet trolls in a failed effort to make it look like they give a damn about standards of behavior or site rules.
What makes me laugh till I'm spewing liquid out my nose is how the inner clique of morons at DF, many of whom worked on the silly OSRIC project, act as if they're invented the wheel when all they did was copy existing rules into a format allowed by WotC to enable them to publish new adventures that 5 people will purchase so that they can all feel important.
More like re-inventing an inferior square wheel.
I've written a lot about how I cannot understand the OSR mentality/craze. Unless you're a major publisher, there's no need for it. Even then, there's hardly need for it. It's really sad and pathetic to watch that site deteriorate. They had a good thing going for awhile, but their shitty leadership literally corrupted the site into a shadow of its former self and drove away all the creative talent. Very sad.

Over on DF someone mentioned an allegation against Frank, but the thread got a major warning from the mods NOT TO discuss it.. ANyone know what they are on about?
Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
I believe that on kickstarter it's possible to set longer time limits (eg. 60 days), however it doesn't really seem to make much of a difference to the overall outcome (in some cases it may even be detrimental, as some people are less likely to pledge that far in advance). There are a number of patterns which emerge with successful and unsuccessful kickstarters. One of the most important things is getting a big day 1 hit, so that it gets promoted on the page. If they don't get this, they tend to fail, as they don't get much attention. There are also often a fair few people who go into things late, once they've seen whether they think it is likely to succeed, and how far they get into the stretch goals, etc. (creating a bit of a prisoner's dilemma).Halaster-Blackcloak wrote:That sucks. One way he could still succeed (and I've seen some others do this), is to keep the details of the existing backers, keep providing them updates, etc. so they stay interested, and start another one in a few months time. That way, all of the existing ones who are keen go on in the first day or two and pledge again, causing it to trend and hit the front page of kickstarter, which then attracts more people to it. One in particular that I saw do this went from failing pretty badly the first time, to substantially exceeding their goal the second time around. Hopefully he gives that a go.

Most likely it is in reference to this.garhkal wrote:Over on DF someone mentioned an allegation against Frank, but the thread got a major warning from the mods NOT TO discuss it.. ANyone know what they are on about?

So he seemed to have said something creepy, and that makes him a perv?
Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
He also kept insisting to actual sexual assault survivors that it was their fault for being sexually assaulted, even after being asked to stop.

Now that I read more, I'm going to change what I just said. Now I KNOW that woman is full of shit and is a professional victim surround by a bunch of stupid, virtue-signalling liberals.
A self-described "howling maenad" accusing someone with a sterling reputation of sexual harassment? She's probably one of the DF idiots in real life, and just wants to go after Mentzer because he told DF to f*ck off. And she surrounds herself with stupid, virtue-signalling liberals who take her at her word with no need of proof other than because she said so. Cult mentality. Seen it a thousand times with these leftists. Boring.

Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
I think it's amusing you are so obsessed with this Dragonsfoot place that you are now starting to believe everyone you dislike or disagree with is actually a poster there. I'm awaiting the day you start accusing me of being from there.
Anyway, this isn't a simple matter of 'he said/she said' and you just have to take either's word for it. There are actual screenshots. It was enough evidence that at least one fellow who was working on the kickstarter deal, Ted Fauster, dropped out of the project. You can choose to believe in conspiracy theories from some obscure AD&D forum if you want, but it's pretty easy for me to believe an old man is an entitled creep, even if there wasn't plenty of proof of it.

Re: Can't say I'm shocked - the cesspool boils!
I'm hardly "obsessed" with DF simply because I have a lot to say about the place.
Who cares about proof? Let's just make knee-jerk decisions. Let's just read something sinister, evil, racist, sexist, etc. into everything spoken and written, and become "offended" by literally everything - from Halloween costumes to crosses on private property to classic novels. If that idiot was serious about being "sexually harassed", then she should be filing charges, not whining to a bunch of idiot sycophant follower-enablers on Twitter in an orgy of virtue-signalling.
