Jim will wait patiently for either Sue or Woody to make a move to leave, while doing so he will quietly keep an ear on the conversation between the two elves.

Woody doesn't seem to understand so he is willing to leave once Sue is ready.

Jim and Sue lurk, eavesdropping, while Woody retreats a short way along the alley. The sun elf and wild elf half-turn towards their audience, and still they converse, the magic of the weave carrying thier words to whoever hears them. The sun elf points and a single, white hot beam of energy shoots from his pointing finger towards Sue, who narrowly leans out of the way. The aggressor's eyes glow the colour and intesnity of the midday sun and then back to normal as if ready to repeat his action. The beam vapourises a five foot cube of stonework a dozen foot beyond Sue. Meanwhile the wild elf, still speaking in some melodious, musical tongue, eyes turning the colour of a lime leaf, fans his fingers and eight tiny balls of limelight flit in arcs towards Jim, all striking. [Jim: 23 force damage] The elf's eyes return to normal as if ready to repeat his action.

Initiatives and statements of intent, please. (Plus, of course, any associated dice rolls)

Sorry for the wait. It's taken me a while to get on top of this one.
Edit: I've added an indicztive map to the NE of the R20 grid. Though that might help. :) The adventuring trio were headed "up the screen"

With a quick but stiff bow in the direction of the pair of elves, Jim utters "Apologies" in Celestial and Dashes as an action and leaves. Heading to the nearest obstacle or building corner to break eye line and then keeps moving further away.

Round 1

Jim bows stiffly, makes a beautiful, trilling noise and then sprints unceremoniously along the alley and out of sight.

The wild elf, now partially transparent, eyes lime-green, says something* and punches a clenched fist towards Sue. A large, shimmeringly transparent fist appears in front of Sue’s head and duplicates the motion. [Sue: AC24, 20 force] The elven eyes fade back to normal as if ready to repeat his action.

Ducking and weaving Sue casts a spell and then follows in Jim’s wake. He’s overtaken by Woody who pegs it after Jim and out of sight of the weird elves.

The sun elf, also partially transparent, eyes like the midday sun, says something** and makes gestures as if throwing something at Sue. Three small shards of fire streak towards the half-orc. A pair only leave char marks on the stone of the alley. The third would have scorched Sue badly if not deflected by both shield and spell. [Sue: AC20, 10 fire, just misses!] The colour leaks from his eyes, back to normal.

Jim and Woody have left combat.

Round 2

The wild elf, now mostly transparent, eyes again lime-green, punches a clenched fist towards Sue and then casts a spell, covering his ears. The large see-through fist slams at the half-orc, deflected at the last moment by shields of both steel and Faith. [Sue: AC20, 8 force, misses; & Constitution saving throw, please]

While wild elf, yammering in an unknown language, tries to swat Sue, the paladin notices amost peripherally that the sun elf's eyes glow a calming rose-pink as it talks Sue's native language. The voice is different; it sounds familiar.

Sue's ears pop and he has a bad dose on wind but otherwise throws off the effects of the wld elf's spell. Duacking and weaving, SUe catches only a handful or words in the familiar-sounding voice before he's too far away and then staggers around the corner. There doesn't seem to be any pursuit.

Sue has left combat. What next?

Stopping around the corner winded, Sue doubles over.

"Hhhhoolld, ooonnn aaa mmmooommmment." Breathing heavily. Then slowly in deep measured breaths.

"Can you two remember what you just understood? I think we need to write the pieces down, and see if we can make something from them."

Once his breathing calms, Sue will cast a lvl 2 Cure Wounds on himself.

Jim hears the lock-step march of a squard approaching from the north. There's still time to flee the alley.
