SHUTTING DOWN SITE FOREVER / TAKE OVER OF PADnD.COM

Post by Cole »

Hey everyone.

I'm sad to say it's come time to say goodbye to this website, it's domain and all of you. It's been almost 26 years now (we opened the door in Aug 1999). It's not that I can't afford it, or don't love seeing the site with people on it or using it, but I no longer want to be the caretaker or the MC on file. I have discontinued ALL payments to our host as of August 25th 2025. Please back up or save characters to preserve your memories etc.
(YOU have a few months to do this!)

I will give ANYONE who wants this responsibility the right to take over the domain and the website associated with PADND.com for FREE if they are the right kind of person (IE an admin or moderator that's been on the site for an extended period of time). You just need to volunteer and I will update our host with YOUR login and password and credit card info. That will allow me to transfer the responsibility to you ;)

Please email me if you are interested in taking over. I have posted the payments that need to be made to maintain the site below. About $200 / year.

Thank you all :)

Cole

Tristen, if you don't accept the offer, let me know if you want to move your current games over to my site.

Thank you kindly Tristen.

A much bigger adventure is closing in on me as my wife nears retirement, so I must prepare :)

Let me know if/what/when you decide (anyone willing etc.). We can back up the database easy and move it, but overall it would be cheapest and easiest to maintain what's on this server at GoDaddy.com

Not only is there thousands and thousands of downloads, there are thousands of pages, chat clients, special rooms, etc that ALL depend on databases, the entire thing would be a nightmare to move. However! If it's these forums your after, that would be as easy as installing onto a new site and running the backup database file to commence :)

Cheers to you both! You been very loyal and kind folks.

I hope someone takes over. It would be sad to see all the forum and archives of data lost in the void.

Cheers

I could shoulder some of the costs with the person who takes over, starting next month. While I registered on here, like, two years ago and then bolted because I got busy, I like what I saw of this place and hate to see things vanish into the void...

I step away for some time and it's like the world is falling apart!

Man, Cole. I knew you would one day and fully understand, if I had the time I'd happily run it but that was another part of my life. I'm not in the same place as the days I stayed up till 4-5 in the morning to talk to you guys!

I wish you the best of luck and I do hope someone steps in and at least keeps this part alive.. this place, these characters (Mira being the most important) formed part of who I am.

Demiplane of Dread - Mira Human Bard (Searching for the Crown)
Genwald - Nesserrr (Katten) Feliz Ranger (Going Solo..)
- Stardust (Jade) Pixie Warlock (Seeking answers)

I'm going to do it.

I spoke with Cole and it will be a few days before everything is changed over and officially official, but I wanted to mention it here so people know.

PAD&D isn't going anywhere for a long time if I can help it

Oddly enough, my 10 year anniversiary of joining the Gaming Forums here is in abt 2 weeks, though I used the main site resources for a few years before that

It's all 'Official' / technically squared away now.

I may need a little help (from my friends*) with the technical/ webspace side of things from time to time; but I am officially the Proud new caretaker of the Planet: AD&D
