Act 1, Scene 3: "Out of Harmony" (Game Thread)

Jerry shakes Mira's hand, "Pleased to meet you. You're a very accomplished performer, if I can say that without giving offense. I really enjoyed last night's performance. If and when you perform again, I should so like to be present." She pauses, choosing her words, "Jerry, healer, herbalist, Servant of Mystra, sometimes caster and always Hunter of the Undead. And I can just about use a morningstar and sling. But after the couple I lost last night, I've only got about 4 sling bullets left." She smiles again to show she's just responding in kind and not making fun or anything untoward.

After the brief exchanges of words, Jerry nods seriously at the warning about casting magic in public and puts her book away but adds, when no staff are around, "My book contains: 'Armour, Colour Spray, Copy, Detect Magic, Identify, Protection from Hunger & Thirst, Protective Amulet, Read Magic'. You're very welcome to copy any of these."

At the mention of the Crown of Soldiers and associated invitation, the half elf nods again, "Thank you. I will help you willingly to the best of my ability. If opportunity presents itself for us to explore the Crown of Souls, and in all honesty I don't know if that's a physical object or something abstract, any help you could offer would be gratefully accepted. If you should perchance recall any lore, or ballads too, that contain a reference to a Crown of Souls, I'd definitely like to hear."

Trying to keep up with the flow of the conversation, Jerry comments, "Well, from what I'm hearing, it seems that bad dreams may be a property of this plane. I do feel more distant, more removed from my Mistress, Mystra. And I have _no_ idea how to get back to Faerun. So meanwhile, I will make the very best of things, as bid by my Goddess, and try to help any of you with whatever tasks or quests that come to hand. But if any tasks come up around the town that are worth coin or credit in the right place, I could follow those too, as I will soon need a new spellbook."

Jerry declines any food, and shortly thereafter takes her leave to go upstairs and start transcribing the various spells before Merrick comes to take her on a tour of the town.

[Jenara]

"If I'm honest I don't know that much Lore if I'm honest, I've only been here a few weeks.. I'm from a place called Krynn. But I know a place to look. They'd have a spellbook too, but even my little one costs a fortune." Leaning back she folds her arms.

"You should go and see John, he might make you some silver bullets like Pyros." She comments on the sling bullets.

"So, I'm going to the jail this morning, return the sword and.." She blushes, "I'd like to go alone.. Well with Elsa, I'd rather not go completely alone." Looking at the group she looks at Pyros. "Pyros, can you and the others get us some gear for a trip to Skald, we'll need some food and waterskins. We'll go to Toads Toe and find out about this Crown. Then we get Yasir out.."

Just as she was starting to rise, Jerry catches the comment about silver weaponry, "Silver? Why silver? Oh and I nearly forgot, I can cast an Armour on you if you want when we get upstairs."

[Jenara]

"Silver hurts them somehow, I'm not quite sure..."

Yet through the fog a mismatched band, Strange of both hair and eye;

And Many Sent to Earthen Grave. she sings softly..

"Swords of shining light.." She repeats. "And I cant wear my armour and cast, so I'd appreciate it."

"You're awesome," applauds Jerry. "By 'them' did you mean the wolves? Or something else? I'm thinking of Wights or Weres.. As we hit an incoming wolf with a sling bullet last night and it definitely seemed to damage it."
Remembering her manners, she adds, "On the armour, you're welcome." And indicates with a finger that she'll cast it when they're upstairs."

"Were's? Is that like people becoming Wolves?" She wished that Yasir was here, he knew these things. "I was warned by those that travel the mists to use Silver."

"The lines are not mine, they are from a history we were allowed to read. Which appears to tell the story of this place." Mira explains.

"Yes, shapechangers. True ones have a native beast form but can voluntarily change to human, or perhaps also a hybrid man-beast form. They can infect humanoids who then may change involuntarily into the beast form. The were species do not interbreed and rarely mix. In Fareun they may be wolves, rats, various cats, boars and bears. I have heard that in other planes werebadgers, goats, sheep and parrots esist, but I suspect that is some kind of parody. So you did mean the wolves, then?" replies Jerry, both disappointed and relieved too that the talented lady did not mean wights.

"They are beautiful words to be sure. If it is permitted and opportunity presents, I would gladly read something of this history."

[Jenara]

"King Rat Slayer..." Mira mumbles. "And the book is in an ancient language.. Not many can read it. And yes I think we encountered one of those.. 'Were' wolves." She explains. "Elsa and Pyros encountered more."

[Nocturno]

"The wolves in the forest were like the ones in the street... I really wonder if any of them were the same. Artanis...Iamnotexpertwoodsmanlikeyou!ButIdoliveoffthelandalot.Howdoyouthinksomanybigwolveslivesoclosetogether?!?"

"Thank you. We can talk languages when you come for your 'Armour', and transcribing too, of course. It's been my pleasure," Jerry smiles looking into the gypsy's eyes. She stands up.
"ok, all, I'll be upstairs when any if you are ready for spellwork; hopefully soon, and before Merrick sweeps me away for a town tour," she gives a mini-curtsy then heads upstairs.

OOC: Was just getting prepared to get on the road when Jen pinged me. LOL.

Artanis shakes his head as if clearing cobwebs as he attempts to decipher what Pyros just so rapidly asked him. The ranger chuckles and offhandedly remarks: "Wolves are pack animals and while usually they keep away from "human" settlements. But this place is not normal, and perhaps some of those other types as we encountered in the jail are the pack leaders."

[Jenara]

"I'll see you up there. Say Hi to Merrick for me." Winking she watches her leave. "Ok.. " Mira says after a moment's silence. "What just happened?" She asks after Jerry heads upstairs. "Regardless, are you all ok with my suggestions? And Pyros.. " she gives the Kender a little grin. "The Wolves, they have been here as long as the people, they drove them to these towns.. herded them like cattle. I think... The wolves are running the show." Whispering now she looks around, "I think they may be all around us."

"I wonder... If some. " She stops speaking, saying no more, Marie's husband.. could it be?

Jerry talks to the group about what she recalls about were-creatures from her homeland, then heads upstairs to study.

Elsa thinks about the ranger and Bard's words. That's an unsettling thought... at least they can be caught... and jailed, if they're all around... That one last night was pretty scary, but you guys stopped him really quickly...

[Jenara]

"They only seem to appear at night.. think of the damage I saw on the older buildings near the Toad? 'People getting drunk.. I think not." She comments with some concern, "Maybe I'm paranoid, but..." She shakes her head the black lines around her eyes were more visible in the light of day.. how to get over the nightmares? Perhaps she should ask Merrick.

"I'm heading upstairs in a moment." She adds grabbing a pastry. "Remember, discreet... after last night." She glances at the other casters.

[Nocturno]

"While everyone else seems busy trading trade secrets, shall we sneak out for a walk my woodsy friend?"
